WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. media on Friday reported that U.S. President Barack Obama's National Security Adviser, James Jones, will resign and be replaced by deputy Tom Donilon.
The White House has said Obama will make an announcement to the media in the afternoon. Media reports quoted unnamed administration officials as saying Obama will announce the decision on Jones, whose departure will take effect in two weeks.
Jones was born in 1943, and spent over 40 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 2007 as general. He mostly kept a low profile. He is likely to go into semi-retirement after leaving the White House job.
Donilon, on the other hand, had a career as a political adviser, government official and lawyer. He used to work on the State Department section of the transition when Obama came to office.
The White House has seen a series of high-profile personnel changes in recent days, including former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and chief economic adviser Lawrence Summers both leaving.
