"Friendly fire" could have led to death of hostages in Manila: investigators

PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents went to Hong Kong Monday to get the sworn testimonies of some of the survivors of the Aug. 23 hostage crisis. They will also be seeking help of Hong Kong authorities who have more advanced technology. The agents will return to Manila on Friday.

De Lima said IIRC members will have an "internal session" with the PNP and NBI agents next Monday to review the results of the ballistics exam and the statements made by the hostage survivors.

Memorial service held in Manila for Hong Kong hostage victims

MANILA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- More than 4,000 people attended a memorial service held here Tuesday for the victims of hostage crisis at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, where the incident took place on Aug. 23.

"This terrible case is also calling out to heaven for justice. Not only the Chinese are calling for a just and swift investigation of this case. We Filipinos demand the same from our officials. Bring out the truth let those who are responsible whoever they may be held accountable. No whitewash. No scapegoats. Philippines official says nation's tourism industry suffering after Manila hostage tragedy

GUILIN, Guangxi, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Inbound tourism to the Philippines has suffered and will suffer more after the tragic hostage-taking late last month, a top Filipino tourism official said here Friday.

More than 1,000 tour groups from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong have canceled their travel plans to the Philippines since the incident, Filipino Tourism Undersecretary Simeon P. Marfori II told Xinhua in the southern Chinese city of Guilin while attending an international tourism forum.  Full story

Last two survivors of Manila hostage crisis return home

HONG KONG, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The last two survivors in the hostage crisis in the Philippine capital Manila returned home Thursday evening.

The mother and son flew back to Hong Kong on a medical flight arranged by the Hong Kong government.      Full story
