DISPUTE HARD TO SOLVE IN SHORT TERM
Though bilateral relations are turning good, border dispute which has been exist over 100 years can not solved easily in a short period, the expert said.
On Tuesday, Acting Government Spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will meet Hun Sen on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly later this month.
The two leaders will discuss cooperation on border trade and tourism but not dispute, Thai newspaper the Nation said Wednesday.
The two will meet again during the Asia-Europe Summit or ASEM in Brussels early October, Panitan said.
The upcoming meeting in New York may lead to peace talks, but the dispute can not be solved within the current government, Varasakdi said.
"Border conflict is not easy to solve as there are many factors. When it comes to real negotiation, it will be very sensitive and both sides may have to give up their interests," he said.
