TEGUCIGALPA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- A group of gunmen shot dead at least 15 people Tuesday in a small shoe factory in San Pedro Sula city, northern Honduras, police said.

San Pedro Sula's police chief Hector Ivan Mejia, quoted by local media, said that policemen were working to clarify this massacre as soon as possible.

Four men aboard a gray SUV thrust into the shoe factory located in Cabana district and shot at workers with AK-47 fusils, killing 13 people on the spot and injuring six others, he said. Two of the injured died in the hospital.

When the rampage happened, there were between 20 and 25 people working inside the factory, most of them young people ages 17 to 25, Mejia said.
