BAGHDAD, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- A car bomb explosion ripped through central Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least one person and wounding eight others, an Interior Ministry source said.
The blast occurred at about 10:50 a.m. local time (0750 GMT) when a booby-trapped car parking at al-Maidan area in Bab al-Mu' adham district detonated, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, the source put the toll at one killed and three wounded in the explosion.
The blast was close to an Iraqi army base where dozens of army recruits and soldiers were killed by a suicide bombing nearly two weeks ago, the source said.
Sporadic attacks are still common in Iraq as security conditions deteriorated recently, which shaped a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country days after the U.S. military formally announced withdrawal of its combat troops from the war-torn country.
