RAMALLAH, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on Sunday said it is studying the possibility of withdrawing from Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to protest its decision to resume peace talks with Israel, a PFLP official said.
"The PFLP is studying a series of options to respond to the PLO executive committee's decision to accept the U.S. invitation to resume the negotiations," said the official Jameel Mezher.
Mezher said the PFLP "would declare its position soon," noting that withdrawing from the PLO is one of the options the PFLP examines.
The PFLP is the second largest bloc in the PLO.
The PLO's acceptance of the U.S. invitation to resume the direct peace negotiations with Israel in Washington on September 2 was strongly opposed by Palestinian factions.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, the biggest group in the PLO, could not come up with a unified view regarding going to the talks without an Israeli commitment to freeze Jewish settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
