WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- White House said on Wednesday that the United States is on schedule to pull out all its combat troops in Iraq by the end of this month.

"We're on target by the end of the month to end our combat mission," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, adding President Barack Obama is satisfied with the progress made on the ground.

Iraq is witnessing a resurgence of violence in recent months. The death toll in July has reached an alarming two-year high, casting doubt on the government's ability to secure the country.
