RAMALLAH, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- One-third of the Palestinian young people are unemployed, while two-thirds of people killed by Israel since the start of violence in 2000 are youth, Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said Wednesday in a report.
The PCBS's report, which was published on the eve of International Youth Day, showed that 32.2 percent of the Palestinian youth (15-29 years) in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank are unemployed.
"The highest unemployment rate was for the age group between 20- 24 years, which totaled 35.7 percent compared with 28.1 percent for the age group between 25-29 years," according to the report.
The Israeli blockade on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, and the Israeli security measures in the West Bank, including the security fence and checkpoints, led to a severe deteriorating economic situation, pushing hundreds of thousands Palestinians into joblessness.
The report also showed that 29.4 percent of total population in the Palestinian Territory at mid 2010 are youth (15-29 years).
