One dead in bomb attack outside airport in S. Philippines   2010-08-05 19:12:48 FeedbackPrintRSS

COTABATO, Philippines, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A bomb went off outside the airport on Thursday in the southern Philippine city of Zamboanga, leaving one dead and undetermined number of people wounded.

Dinaton Lanto Tanog, vice mayor of Madalum town in Lanao del Sur province, was heading home from Islamic city of Marawi around 4:00 p.m. when armed men attacked their convoy along the national highway in the village of Damdamun, said Paniares Adap, provincial police commander.

Tanog survived the attack, according to Adap, but a follower, Abuilkair Arpa Benasing, was killed.

In the same attack, the mayor's wife, Fatima and two other relatives were wounded.

No one group claimed responsibility for the attack.
