HARARE, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe says it has not handled any case of its nationals fleeing xenophobic attacks from South Africa since the assaults were reported almost three weeks ago.
Since putting its security and humanitarian structures on standby to assist possible victims of xenophobic violence, Zimbabwe has so far not received nor assisted a Zimbabwean or any other foreigner fleeing the attacks, Civil Protection Unit director Madzudzo Pawadyira told Xinhua on Thursday.
He said what had been observed at the Beitbridge Border Post between Zimbabwe and South Africa was that many Zimbabweans were returning home voluntarily.
"We have not yet received any complaints of xenophobic attacks, " Pawadyira said. "What is happening is that some people are self- relocating. It's orderly, it's a matter of a family deciding to come home and these do not need assistance."
Reports say at least 11 migrants from Mozambique and Zimbabwe have been injured since the xenophobic violence was reported soon after the end of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, with at least 10 people having been arrested on suspicion of assault.
