CANBERRA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The Red Bull Air Race has been canceled worldwide, which has robbed Western Australia (WA) of its flagship tourism event, local media reported on Thursday.

Organizers of the Red Bull World Championship have told the WA government they have canceled all events scheduled for 2011 due to safety concerns.

The decision means the event, which attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators and is watched by millions of TV viewers worldwide, will not be part of WA's events calendar.

The Perth event's race director Drew Searle said the decision was taken by Red Bull two days ago, to allow for a "headquarters" restructure as well as the implementation of new safety measures.

The move would protect spectators and the assets of host cities and allow the "adequate amount of time to implement the safety changes", Searle told ABC News.

Eventscorp, the agency charged with attracting big tourism events to WA, was key in establishing the race in Perth.

Executive director David Van Ooren said the organizers had decided to completely review the race structure and there was hope a new race concept would be relaunched. If the race was born again, WA would definitely consider re-staging the event.
