SAN FRANCISCO, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Apple Inc.'s iPhone 4 hit stores in the United States on Thursday as fans across the country lined up and even waited overnight outside Apple stores to buy the latest gadgets.

Most Apple stores in the U.S. opened doors at 7:00 a.m. Thursday for the launch of iPhone 4, three hours earlier than their regular business hour.

At nearly 9:00 a.m., there were still hundreds of customers queuing up outside an Apple store in Burlingame, a city south of San Francisco.

The two lines, one for walk-in purchase and another for customers to pick up their pre-orders, were longer than when iPad, Apple's tablet computer, hit store shelves on April 3.
