WASHINGTON, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has asked one of her senior advisers to serve as coordinator for the implementation of sanctions against Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said U.S. State Department on Thursday.
Robert Einhorn, Clinton's special advisor for nonproliferation and arms control, will serve as the U.S. coordinator for the implementation of sanctions related to Iran and DPRK, or North Korea, State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters at the daily press conference.
Einhorn will direct U.S. efforts to ensure "full and effective" implementation of all UN Security Council resolutions on Iran and DPRK, and will coordinate with U.S. partners and allies to strengthen multilateral efforts to address concerns over the two countries' nuclear programs.
Philip Goldberg, former coordinator for implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1874 on DPRK has been appointed as Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research.
Einhorn's appointment was made by the Obama administration immediately after the UN Security Council adopted the Resolution 1929 on imposing the forth round of sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, which is accused by Washington of developing nuclear weapons.
U.S. President Barack Obama hailed the resolution, saying it will put in place the toughest sanctions ever faced by the Iranian government and send an "unmistakable message" to Tehran about the international community's commitment to stopping the spread of nuclear weapons.
