LOS ANGELES, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican authoties are expected to charge former "Survivor" producer Bruce-Beresford Redman with murder of his wife last month on Monday, local television channel KTLA 5 reported on its website.
Francisco Alor, attorney general for Quintana Roo state, said his office has filed a petition for Beresford-Redman to return to Cancun so he can answer more questions about his wife's murder. He also said it will be up to a judge to review the evidence and issue a warrant for Beresford-Redman's arrest.
The state attorney general's office will turn that evidence over to a judge Monday, and a court record will be entered for the crime of homicide, KTLA 5 reported quoting remarks by Alor.
The award-winning reality producer has returned to Los Angeles, despite being ordered to stay in Mexico until his wife's murder investigation is complete. He was nominated for three Emmys and other awards.
"He has been informed that he has no legal obligation to remain in Mexico pending an investigation into the tragic death of his wife, Monica,"Beresford-Redman's lawyer Richard Hirsch said.
Though he has not been charged in the murder of his wife Monica Beresford-Redman, the producer has been considered "a person of interest."
Beresford-Roman, 38, told police and relatives on April 6 that Monica never made it back to the hotel after a solo shopping excursion the day before. Her naked body was found two days later in a sewer at the lavish Hotel Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico, where the couple had been staying for holiday with their two children.
The day would have been Monica's 42nd birthday.
Commenting on the Mexican authorities's move, Hirsch said that even if a warrant is issued, the Mexican government would have to request that the reality TV producer be extradited, a process they intend to fight.
Hirsch is also encouraging Mexican authorities to consider other possibilities in Monica Beresford-Redman's murder, citing other crimes that have happened at the Moon Palace Hotel, including a rape that happened just days before Monica Beresford- Redman was killed, according to KTLA 5.
Also on Monday, a private memorial service will be held for Monica Beresford-Redman hear her home in Culver City, a Los Angeles suburb.
