PYONGYANG, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The official KCNA news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday accused the United States of cooking up and manipulating the "Cheonan case."

"It is the United States that is behind the case of 'Cheonan.' ... The investigation was steered by the U.S. from its very outset," said the KCNA in a commentary, referring to the South Korean warship that sank March 26 near the maritime border with the DPRK, with 46 sailors killed or missing.

The results of an investigation were published "with the approval of the U.S. and under its patronage and manipulation," said the commentary.

The ulterior motive of the Obama administration was using the case for "escalating instability in the Asia-Pacific region, containing big powers and emerging unchallenged in the region," it said.

The commentary also urged the United Sates to "behave itself, mindful of the grave consequences."

The KCNA has released more than one commentaries on the Cheonan incident, arguing that the United States, South Korea and Japan had benefited the most from the case and were "the real criminals" behind the incident.
