Death toll from target killings in Pakistan's Karachi rises to 40

ISLAMABAD, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from target killings in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi over the past few days has risen to 40 following a policeman being gunned down by unidentified men Friday night, the private Geo TV reported Saturday.

Also on Friday, some arms-wielding motorcyclists shot down former councillor Abdul Ghani and Eidi Amin Khaskheli, who was the coordinator of Qadir Patel, chairman of National Assembly's Standing Committee on Home Affairs.

Later on, Qadir Amin announced to resign from his National Assembly seat and chairmanship of the Standing Committee in protest against the killings.

On Saturday morning, Ajab Khan, 30, and Habib Khan, 24, were injured in firing incidents by motorcyclists near old Sabzi Mandi. The injured were shifted to the Jinnah Hospital.
