Icelandic volcano ash emission less powerful
STOCKHOLM, April 21 (Xinhua) -- There are no signs of a decreasing seismic activity under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in southern Iceland, while the ash emissions have been considerably reduced, according to a government statement reaching here from Reykjavik on Wednesday.
"The ash composition has not changed, but its fluor contents has increased significantly. However, there is still no cause to believe that farm animals should be kept inside for the time being. Airlines lost over $1.7 bln over volcanic ash cloud: IATA
BERLIN, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said Wednesday that airlines have suffered a loss of more than 1.7 billion U.S. dollars since the initial volcanic eruption in Iceland.
"Lost revenues now total more than 1.7 billion U.S. dollars for airlines alone," said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA's director general and CEO, at a press conference in Berlin. "In the first three days, 400 million dollars were lost for each day." Full story
Flights resume in Europe as volcano spews less ash
BEIJING, April 21 (Xinhua) -- About 75 percent of the scheduled flights in Europe on Wednesday were expected to take off, Eurocontrol said.
The European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation said in a statement that it "expects approximately 21,000 flights to take place today in European airspace. On a normal Wednesday, we would expect 28,000." Full story
EU ministers agree to gradually lift flight restrictions
