KABUL, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghan and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops detained a key Taliban commander and several others in militants' hotbed Helmand province south of Afghanistan, a press release of the alliance said Tuesday.
"Afghanistan National Security Forces (ANSF) with International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) captured several insurgents including a senior Taliban commander in Nad Ali district of Helmand province," the press release added.
However, it did not say the exact date of the arrest and the name of the commander; but added a number of arms and ammunition were seized during the operation.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
Nad Ali, a restive district in the southern region was recaptured along with Marja in the wake of a major offensive launched in mid February.
