Iraqi ex-PM's bloc leads in third province in partial poll results

BAGHDAD, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The bloc of Iraq's former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi leads in a third province in partial poll results, election authorities said Saturday evening.

The Iraqia List took the lead in northern ethically diverse Nineveh Province with 62,212 votes in the tallied 18 percent of the votes, according to the Independent High Electoral Commission.

The bloc, a rival of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's State of Law coalition, also led in Diyala and Salahaddin provinces in partial results.

BAGHDAD, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A bloc led by incumbent Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki was leading the vote in Baghdad in the March 7 parliamentary election, partial results posted by Iraq's electoral commission showed on Saturday.

Eighteen percent of the preliminary results showed that Maliki' s State of Law bloc won 150,000 votes and the Iraqi National Alliance, led by Shiite religious parties, garnered around 108,000, while the secular Iraqia bloc, headed by former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, came in third with 105,000 votes. Iraq's Maliki leads in Muthanna province for election votes

BAGHDAD, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The State of Law bloc led by incumbent Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is leading the parliamentary elections in southern province of Muthanna, according to partial results from the electoral commission on Friday.

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced that the State of Law bloc is in the lead with 14,981 votes in Muthanna, an Iraqi southern province which borders Saudi Arabia. Full story

Iraqi election turnout 62.4 percent: electoral commission

BAGHDAD, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq (IHEC) said Monday that the turnout in the country's parliamentary elections was 62.4 percent.

"The turnout of the voters nationwide reached 62.4 percent," Hamdiyah al-Hussieni, a commission member told reporters in a news conference. Full story
