BAGHDAD, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi National Alliance led by Shiite cleric Ammar al-Hakim was heading over the counted election votes in the country's southeastern province of Maysan, the Iraqi electoral commission said Friday.

According to the counting of 23 percent votes in Maysan, the Iraqi National Alliance won nearly 30,000 votes followed by around 22,000 votes of the State of Law bloc, which was led by current Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Based on the figure released on Thursday, the Iraqia List led by former prime minister Ayad Allawi was leading in Diyala and Salahuddin provinces in the counted votes, while Maliki's bloc was leading in two other provinces of Najaf and Babil.

The Kurdish Alliance was heading in Arbil province of Iraq's Kurdish region, according to the figure of 28 percent counted votes there.

Local observers said the race between Maliki and Allawi could be very close, according to the released partial results. However, the Iraqia List has alleged fraud in the elections, saying it had found marked voting papers that had been thrown away and hidden ballot boxes.

On last Sunday. Iraqis made 62.4 percent turnout out of more than 18 million eligible voters to cast their ballots in some 8, 920 polling centers across the country to vote for the 325-seat Iraqi Council of Representatives out of some 6,300 candidates.
