Indonesian police shoot dead allegedly Bali bombing terrorist
JAKARTA, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian police shot dead an allegedly Bali bombing terrorist named Dulmatin in a raid at Pamulang of Banten province, Liputan6.com reported on Tuesday.
However, police have yet confirmed the dead terrorist.
The police's anti-terror special squad Densus 88 also arrested a man and a woman in a shop that also functions as home.
The Head of Anti-terror Desk at the Ministry of Politic, Law and Security Ansyaad Mbai said that the certainty of Dulmatin's death still needs strong proofs.
"It is true that the dead body is allegedly Dulmatin. But we need further confirmations from the Police Headquarters' identification team," said Mbai as quoted by Gatra.com online news.
Meanwhile Dulmatin's family in Kebo Ijo Village of Pemalang Regency in Central Java province said that they were not sure if he was dead in the raid.
"We often receive news about Dulmatin's death since a raid in Mindanao (of the Philippines). But, until now the reality is not clear," Dulmatin's big brother, Azam Ba'afut, told the Antara news agency in Pemalang.
He said that the family did not know the news for sure as police have yet contacted them.
"We know the news from media," he said, adding that the family had twice received news that Dulmatin was dead in Mindanao.
Azam said that the family does not believe that Dulmatin had committed a series of bombing as he was known of a violence hater and a pious Muslim.
"So, we do not believe if he did the bombings. But if it's true that he died, we will take it," said Azam.
Police have been chasing Dulmatin for long as he was allegedly involved in the Bali bombing case in 2002. He was also chased by the Philippine police.
Dulmatin had several names like Amar Usmanan, Joko Pitoyo, Joko Pitono, Abdul Matin, Pitono, Muktarmar, Djoko and Noval.
He was born in Petarukan Village of Pemalang Regency in Central Java province on June 6, 1970.
