ISLAMABAD, March 5 (Xinhua) -- In his first radio address to the nation on Friday, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced the terrorists in the country were defeated.
Gilani said that terrorists have been flushed out. "The personnel of Armed Forces and security agencies by rendering innumerable sacrifices have broken the back of terrorists who were distorting the image of Islam and the country," he said.
He also paid tribute to the people who helped the displaced people from Swat, Waziristan and Malakand in the country's insurgency-ravaged northwest.
The prime minister said that the government has launched Benazir Income Support Program for financial support of the poor people.
The prime minister said that people could witness that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP)-led government had achieved the targets it set since taking office two years ago.
Gilani said the country was facing problems like terrorism, inflation, unemployment, political confrontation, energy crisis, food scarcity, economic instability and lack of confidence among the people.
The Pakistani prime minister has decided to address the nation on first Friday of every month to keep the public apprised of the government performance.
