DAMASCUS, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced on Thursday that Syria and Iran signed an agreement on annulling entry visas.
The Syria president made the remarks at a joint press conference with his visiting Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after their meeting.
Ahmadinejad started his two-day visit to Damascus on Thursday morning and the two leaders held talks on bilateral relations and latest developments in the Arab and international arenas, according to the official SANA news agency.
In the presence of al-Assad and Ahmadinejad, Syria Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki signed the agreement on canceling entry visas for holders of diplomatic, private, service and ordinary passports.
Al-Assad said at the press confrence that "we wanted this day to be one of accomplishment, so we signed an agreement on annulling entry visas between Syria and Iran."
"This agreement would result in more communication and enhancing the common interests of the Syrian and Iranian peoples," he said.
