TEHRAN, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian judiciary official said that the "terrorist" Jundallah group leader Abdolmalek Rigi will be put on trial soon, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Wednesday.
"Undoubtedly, the Rigi case will be considered soon," General Director of Iran's Sistan and Balouchestan's provincial Justice Department Ebrahim Hamidi told Fars.
Hamidi underlined the significance of the Rigi case in gathering more intelligence about the notorious "terrorist group," the report said.
Iran Tuesday accused the United States of backing Rigi, the leader of the Pakistan-based Iranian Sunni rebel group Jundallah, while the latter dismissed Iran's accusations.
Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar on Tuesday announced the capture of Rigi on a flight from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to Kyrgyzstan, according to Iran's English-language satellite channel Press TV.
Jundallah, or Peoples Resistant Movement of Iran, is an insurgent Sunni Islamic organization based in Balochistan of Pakistan that seeks to fight for the rights of Sunni Muslims in Iran.
The group was founded by and had been under the command of Rigi. It has been identified as a terrorist organization by Iran and Pakistan and has been behind numerous acts of terror, bombing, kidnapping and smuggling narcotics.
