UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon is scheduled to visit Los Angeles in late February and early March to see how the American entertainment industry can help the United Nations "raise awareness and mobilize the public around global issues," a UN spokesman said here Tuesday.
Martin Nesirky, Ban's spokesman, told reporters here that "the secretary-general will travel to Los Angeles from Feb. 28 to March 2, 2010, to engage the creative community and explore ways in which the UN and the entertainment industry can join forces to raise awareness and mobilize the public around global issues."
"The secretary-general will also address the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on the role of the United Nations in an era of global challenges," Nesirky said. "He will focus on the power of citizens everywhere to get involved in addressing the world's problems and building a better world."
"During his visit, the secretary-general will be awarded the UCLA Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the university," the spokesman added.
