BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand celebrated the 84th birthday of their ailing King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Monday.
The 84 year-old sovereign spoke at the ceremonial Grand Palace in Bangkok for about five minutes, after being driven from a nearby hospital where he has been staying for more than two years.
Every year, the Thai government traditionally pardons a number of prisoners. This year, 22,000 prisoners benefited from the move.
However, this year's amnesty list excludes the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. He is currently living in exile after being convicted on corruption charges.
