BEIJING,Aug 22 (Xinhuanet) – The visiting U.S. Vice President has also been to Dujiangyan City in Sichuan province, accompanied by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The focus of their visit was the progress of reconstruction following the devastating earthquake there 3 years ago.
Their first stop: Qing Cheng Shan High School, where they watched a training session of the school's boys and girls' basketball teams, talked with the players, and gave them basketballs provided by the NBA as presents. Also at the school, the two leaders listened to reports by Sichuan provincial leaders on reconstruction efforts 3 years on. They also went into the classroom to encourage the students to pursue academic achievements.
Afterwards, the two leaders visited Dujiangyan's ancient irrigation project. It's a UNESCO-designated world cultural heritage site, first built in the Tang Dynasty. It still plays a crucial role in draining floodwater and irrigating farmlands. Biden arrived in Beijing on August 17th. Sichuan is the last stop of his visit to China.
