BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 18 people have reportedly been killed as a Russia-made cargo plane crashed in southern Pakistan. According to local television, there were eight people on board the plane. It came down two minutes after taking off from Karachi airport early Sunday morning. The plane was on its way to Sudan.

The number of casualties could be higher than expected because the plane crashed into a residential area near the airport. Four buildings have reportedly been destroyed. Six people on board are said to be Pakistanis while the pilot and co-pilot are foreigners. Their nationality has yet to be determined. A rescue team has been sent to the crash site and so far at least one body has been recovered.
