BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The flow peak of the Hanjiang River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze River, has passed the city of Hanchuan in Hubei Province. There is no longer any threat to the dam on that section of river.

A related department says the flow peak arrived earlier than expected, with the water level now lowered to 31.73 meters compared with the peak of 31.94 meters Wednesday night.

Local authorities have launched a first-level emergency response plan. They have evacuated more than 4,700 local residents, and deployed more than 30,000 people in case of emergency. The Hanjiang River winds through Hanchuan city for over 93 kilometers, with a total embankment of 160 kilometers.
