BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Emergency repair work at a barrier lake in southwest China's Chongqing municipality has been carried out after water reached warning levels. It took rescuer several days before curbing the leak from the dyke of the barrier lake.
The operation focused on evacuating local residents and dredging the lake. Now, the water level has fallen by 9.41 meters. To prevent more leaks and protect the dyke from further erosion, workers laid a plastic sheet on part of the dyke as a flood-relief channel.
After 4 hours, the situation was stabilized. Later, large construction machinery will be used to build a road on the dyke.
