BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Diego Maradona has been sacked as coach of Argentina's national team ending an erratic 21-month stint. His team struggled to qualify for the competition in South Africa but turned in some good performances before eventually being dumped out in the quarterfinals.
Diego Maradona's stormy spell as coach came to an end when soccer chiefs voted unanimously not to renew his contract. Recently, Maradona gave an ultimatum to the football federation. That demand was unacceptable to Argentine Football Association.
"I only stay if my entire staff remained."
Ernesto Cherquis Bialo, spokesman of Argentina Football Association, said, "Next, August 11, Argentina plays against Ireland. The coach will be Mr. Batista and on September 7, we still don't know who will be the coach of the National Team."
