BEIJING, July 20 (Xinhuanet) -- China continues to cruise at the Taekwondo World Cup in Urumqi as the men's and women's teams have both advanced to the quarter-finals.
However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for China as Olympic Champion Wu Jingyu was beaten by arch rival Yang Shu Chun from Chinese Taipei.
Wu Jingyu went into the match with Yang Shu Chun holding a winning record, but Wu soon fell behind in the contest.
Yang came out aggressively and notched the first point just 20 seconds into the match.
Wu was eager for a comeback, but couldn't land point scoring strikes.
A little controversy in the second round of this one. Yang appeared to hit Wu's head consecutively, but wasn't given any points.
The Chinese Taipei team then asked for replays, and the judges changed their decision..awarding Yang 3 points.
Wu finally lost the match 4-2.
Beijing Olympic Champion Wu Jingyu said, "I still think she didn't kick my head to score, it's because of the angle the judges were watching."
Though Chinese Taipei won the match, they were still eliminated. China went on to win the necessary three matches to make it into the quarterfinal.
On the men's side, China took on Azerbaijan. Xu Yongzeng took to the pitch first, and he made use of his height advantage to score consistently and take the opening win for China.
The Chinese men would continue their roll as they went on to eliminate Azerbaijan. The men will look to extend their winning streak in the quarterfinal against Spain.
