BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Also at the World Expo, a special promotional week for Shandong Province opened on Thursday.
Hundreds of cultural performances are scheduled for the next several days arranged under the theme of "Qilu Culture and Glamorous Shandong."
Taishan Mountain, the Yellow River, Confucius, and Yimeng folk songs elements that best represent the province were staged at the opening ceremony of Shandong Week. This acrobatic performance had even won the highest award at the 34th Montecarlo International Circus Festival.
Haflidi Saevarsson, Director of Iceland Pavilion, said, "I know Shandong has a very long history and profound culture. I'm very honored to watch the performances from Shandong here at Shanghai Expo today."
As one of the most important cradles of Chinese culture, Shandong boasts many intangible cultural heritages. Folk artists from Shangdong province are showing various examples such as Weifang Kites, graphic arts, black pottery, paper-cuts, and clay sculpture. Visitors are encouraged to try their hand at making something themselves.
In the coming week, performances including songs, dances, acrobatics and local opera will be staged every day at the World Expo to promote Shandong.
