BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Shanghai Expo is not only being visited by humans from all around the world, but it is also joined by some special guests who have traveled through time. Three ladies from the Tang Dynasty are giving modern audiences a taste of what real beauty was like some 14 centuries ago.

By today's definition where being slim and trim is considered ideal, these three ladies from the Tang Dynasty show a completely different aesthetic, one in which plumpness is beautiful.

As the old Chinese saying goes, a big heart grows in a big body. So, it's hard for these women to hide their pleasant mood, especially this lady who is dressed up in men's garments. As the head of Shanghai Museum, Chen Xiejun, explains, the tolerant aesthetic standard of beauty was rooted in the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty.

As the peak of China's feudal society, the Tang Dynasty was also a fertile land for the prosperity of art. That's why we can still experience the charm of these ancient ladies today. They are vividly preserved in Tang San Cai or Tang's Tri-color, a successful invention of color-glazed pottery made in the Tang Dynasty.

At least twice firing above 850 degrees Celsius made it possible to glaze the major three colors: yellow, white, and green.
