BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Baoduzhai Mountain is famous for its wide and flat peak located 16 kilometers from Shijiazhuang City, capital of North China's Hebei Province.
Because Baoduzhai Mountain is located at the junction of a plain and mountain without any hills as a transition, it appears to be quite towering. The peak of Baoduzhai Mountain is also known as the largest peak garden in China, covering an area of more than 0.4 square kilometers.
Once on the peak, the flourishing plants and the 2,000-meter-long mountain wall make visitors feel like they are in a huge flowerpot. If you look down from the edge of the peak, you can see the entire North China Plain.
There is a legend about the origins of the name of Baoduzhai Mountain. Baoduzhai means "holding calf village" in Chinese, which not only is the name of the mountain, but also refers to the village on the peak. It is said that farmers discovered years ago that the wide peak could be ploughed into a vast farmland.
