NEW YORK, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The 2.06-meter giant John Isner served 17 aces on Sunday night, beating his countryman Alex Bogomolov Jr. 7-6 (9), 6-4, 6-4 and joining another three Americans in securing the fourth round of US Open.
The big man served big in the intense match, extending his winning streak to eight matches, dating back to the Winston-Salem ATP last week.
The 28th-seeded Isner became the fourth American to make the round of 16, matching the most prolific season for the United States in men's actions to move so far 2003, when Andy Roddick won his sole US Open championship. The other three are Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish and Donald Young.
Isner sets up next match against No. 12 Gilles Simon of France, who managed to dismiss another big man, 18th-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro, 4-6, 6-7 (5), 2-6, 6-7(3). The 1.96-meter Argentinean is the 2009 US Open champion.
In earlier match, American veteran Roddick, the 21st seed, won 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (5) against Frenchman Julien Benneteau and matches up next against David Ferrer, the fifth seed from Spain for a quarterfinal place.
Ferrer moved on also in straight sets against 26th seed Florian Mayer from Germany 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (2).
"It's a great thing to see," said Roddick, who turned 29 Tuesday and is the oldest of the remaining Americans.
The 22-year-old Young has risen to 84 on the back of steady improvement and had his best win earlier on Sunday when he beat the 24th seed Juan Ignacio Chela 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. That followed an impressive victory over Stanislas Wawrinka.
Eighth seed Mardy Fish, who next plays French 11th seed JoWilfried Tsonga, defeated South Africa's Kevin Anderson 6-4, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) on Saturday, becoming the first American man into last 16.
