WASHINGTON, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 points and led the Dallas Mavericks to beat the Miami Heat 112-103 on Thursday for a 3-2 lead in the NBA finals.

Jason Terry netted 21 points, J.J. Barea had 17 while Jason Kidd and Tyson Chandler added 13 apiece for Dallas, which shot a sizzling 56.5 per cent (39-69) from the field and 13-of-23 from behind the three-point arc.

The Mavericks lost the 2006 Finals to the Heat but now have a chance of revenge on Sunday night or Tuesday, if necessary, to win their first Larry O'Brien Championship trophy since entering the league in 1980.

Miami's LeBron James scored 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, and Dwyane Wade battled through a sore left hip after a first-quarter collision to finish with 23 points.
