Sharapova fights through into French Open last four

PARIS, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Russian seventh seed Maria Sharapova fought hard to eliminate Polish 12th seed Agnieszka Radwanska 7-6 (7/4), 7-5, reaching the last eight at the French Open on Monday.

Sharapova, who fought back from 4-1 down in the first set and survived five set points in the second, will meet either 25th- seeded countrywoman Maria Kirilenko or German 15th seed Andrea Petkovic for a place in the semifinals.

PARIS, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The seventh seed Maria Sharapova from Russia fought back from one set down to overcome the French wild card Caroline Garcia 3-6, 6-4 and 6-0 to go through the women's singles second round at the French Open on Thursday.

The three-time Grand Slam winner Sharapova put herself in great danger as she trailed behind 1-4 in the second set, but was tough enough to take the following 11 games in a row, refusing the 17- year-old Garcia to produce an upset. Full story
