JAKARTA, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Ten members grouped in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plus Timor-Leste will compete in the 6th ASEAN Para Games (APG) in Solo City of Central Java province on Dec. 12-20, Kompas daily quoted an official as saying on Wednesday.
Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin, president of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF), said that Timor-Leste was invited to joint the event so that they can be accustomed with various events between member states.
Timor-Leste hopes to join the regional bloc in 2012.
Meanwhile, it is expected that about 2,000 handicapped athletes will compete in the sport party.
"They will compete in 10 sports. The APG is also an event to prepare the athletes for International Paralympic," Zarin said.
Chairman of the Indonesia Paralympic Organization Committee (INASPOC) James Tangkudung said that the 10 sports include heavyweight lifting, athletic, archery, table tennis, badminton, wheelchair tennis, chess, sitting volley, swimming and goal ball.
The executive committee will still discuss whether to increase the number of sports.
