PARIS, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian striker Brandao playing for the French first division giants Marseille was still held in custody for one more day on charges of raping a young woman, local media reported on Wednesday.

Citing the prosecutor, the local radio channel RTL said a 23-year-old woman filed a lawsuit on Friday accusing the Brazilian striker of raping her in his car when he brought her home last week after leaving a nightclub in Aix-en Provence, south of France.

According to the report, the 30-year-old player admitted having sex with the woman with her consent while she stood firm on her accusation. Brandao is expected to confront her on Wednesday.

"My client is quite serene. He absolutely denied the charges accusing him," the defense lawyer Patricia Clusan was quoted as saying.

The Olympique Marseille club declined to comment on its player arrest, recalling the need to respect the presumption of innocence in a statement posted on its website.

The Brazilian striker played for Olympique Marseille club since 2009 after defending Ukranian Shakhtar Donetsk's jersey.
