DONGGUAN, South China, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- World champion Maneza Maiya of Kazakhstan showed her supremacy in the clean and jerk to win the gold medal of women's 63kg weightlifting at the Guangzhou Asiad here on Tuesday.
Maneza, who increased the jerk world record to 143kg at last month's world championships, jerked 135kg in her third attempt to secure the gold medal with a winning total of 241kg, 1kg more than Kim Soo Kyung of South Korea. China's Chen Aichan gained the bronze at 233kg.
In the snatch, Maneza only ranked third after snatching 106kg, 1kg less than Kim and 2kg less than Chen.
Entering into the clean and jerk, Chen quitted the gold pursuit because she failed at 130kg after jerking 125kg in her first attempt. Kim took the lead as she raised 133kg in her third attempt.
Maneza succeeded in 133kg in her first attempt, but failed at 135kg in her second. Lagging behind Kim 1kg in total, the 25-year-old lifter, whose bodyweight is heavier than Kim, had to jerk at least 135kg to clinch the gold.
Maneza shook off pressure by lifting 135kg in her final attempt.
"After the world championships, my physical condition is not so good, therefore today's result is not as good as expected," said Maneza, "Anyway, I'm very happy to win the gold."
