LONDON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool and Juventus have both reached the second-tier Europa League with 2-0 victories on Thursday.

Liverpool won through two goals by striker David Ngog over Rabotnicki. Fernando Torres and Joe Cole were both absent.

It was Roy Hodgson's first game since he became Liverpool's manager four weeks ago.

Brazilian striker Amauri scored both goals for Juventus to help the Italian side beat Shamrock Rovers of Ireland in the first leg of its third qualifying round match.

The winners after next week's second-leg matches will enter two-legged playoffs for a place in the tournament.

Liverpool and Juvetus have had to undergo the Europa League preliminary rounds after each finished seventh in their respective leagues last season.
