BEIJING, June 9(Xinhuanet) -- Stephen Strasburg has set foot on a brilliant highway when he struck out 14 batters and 100-mph fastballs in his Major League Baseball debut in Washington .
Strasburg, 21, hit six in the first three innings before yielding Delwyn Young's two-run homer in the fourth. It was a brief speed bump. The crowd was at its loudest when he fanned the last in his string of seven in a row, to end the seventh inning.
"This kid is unbelievable," Nationals catcher Ivan Rodriguez said, "He attacked the zone and threw all four pitches for strikes."
The expectations for Strasburg have been building since the Nationals made him the No. 1 draft pick a year ago and signed him to a $15.1 million contract.
It is generally believed that his price will double in the near future, U.S. media said.
"Definitely, I think anything is possible," Strasburg said. "I always knew I was capable."
