Rogge pushes not just to remember Vancouver Games with luger death

"The good strategy is to capitalise on the strong points of Vancouver," he said. "Where there were some teething pains, Sochi needs to make sure that these are not repeated."

Rogge made points on doping and weather, too, saying that the IOC showed athletes that taking dope is highly risky and weather is something they cannot control.

He declined to compare the Vancouver Games to those of Turin, and said he didn't see a big trend of any of the underdogs against the traditional powerhouses.

Rogge: IOC has "moral responsibility" for luger death

VANCOUVER, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) accepts "moral responsibility" but not legal responsibility for the death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, said IOC president Jacques Rogge on Thursday.

"The IOC is not legally bound to the track," he said. "We are morally responsible. Our responsibility is to make sure that no unnecessary risks are taken. There will always be risk in sport, but it has to be reasonable and the athletes take a lot of risk themselves," said Rogge.  Full story

FIL gives explanation on Georgian slider fatal accident

WHISTLER, Canada, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The International Luge Federation (FIL) has given a press conference Saturday in Whistler, explaining the fatal accident of a Georgian slider occurred Friday.

"As for the accident our technical officials studied the tape then walked the track and retraced the event. Based on this they were able to render their opinion as to what happened," said FIL secretary general Svein Romstad.  Full story

IOC president Rogge says condolence for Georgian dead luger
