RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- In the third round of the Rio de Janeiro state championship, America won their first game of the tournament 3-2 over Macae on Saturday.
The victory gives Bebeto the first win of his career as a head coach.
Before the match took place, Bebeto silenced any sort of contention with team manager Romario, who played alongside Bebeto on Brazil's third World Cup championship.
According to local media, the two have had a fallout over the team's direction and leadership. But both professionals described any sort of problem as being false.
In their win on Saturday, America's star player was Daniel Morais. The striker scored twice while his teammate Gerson added to the victory. For Macae, Andre Gomes scored both of his team's goals.
"I am here to score. Today I was able to score twice. The most important thing is that we won and earned three points. I hope to be able to be as effective in our upcoming games," commented Daniel Morais.
Morais added that he has the goal to lead all scorers in this year's Rio de Janeiro state tournament.
Despite the big names of Adriano, Vagner Love and Fred, Morais says that he intends on beating them out.
In the fourth round of play, America will host Resende on Jan. 28.
