BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- For tablet computer zealots, iPad may not be the only choice, as Motorola has launched its own tablet called the Xoom, according to foreign media reports Tuesday.
Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. reported that the sales of the Xoom have started "relatively well" at Verizon Wireless since it went on market last Thursday.
Sanjay Jha, chairman and chief executive of the company, said, "They're off to a good start."
Priced between 600 U.S. dollars and 800 dollars, the Xoom is seen as the first viable challenger to Apple's iPad.
But different from iPad, the Xoom is the first tablet computer to run Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, which is specially designed for tablets.
Besides, the Xoom has a 10.1-inch screen, slightly larger than that of iPad, and dual cameras for video chatting and recording high-definition video.
But some analysts said that the Xoom may encounter troubles while competing with iPad, since Apple also has something else the Xoom doesn't have -- the App Store and iTunes.
