DAMASCUS, May 30 (Xinhua) -- About 3,000 artifacts and 21 graves dating back to the Roman era and Bronze age were discovered in Syria on Saturday, the Syrian daily Al-Watan reported on Sunday.
The artifacts were discovered by the expedition of the Damascus University in cooperation with the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Daraa governorate, 101 km south of Damascus.
The unearthed artifacts, including clay pots, jars, ewers, swords, amulets and necklaces as well as meters-deep graves were discovered in Tal al-Ashaari in Daraa governorate.
The head of the expedition Qasem Mohammad said these findings date back to the Bronze Mid-Age (1,800-1,700 BC) and the Roman era (510 BC-476 AD).
The discoveries showed that the region was an important cultural center in ancient ages and a notable connection point among the ancient civilizations.
