BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Copy-and-paste functionality, a fixture in modern computing, will not be incorporated into Microsoft's mobile operating system Windows 7.
It's not the first time a major mobile software producer has omitted to provide copy and paste. Apple left the feature from the iPhone's initial release and only added it two years later after customer complaints.
Microsoft confirmed, in comments made at MIX10, that Windows Phone 7 Series devices would not be able to cut and paste between applications. Microsoft say that as Windows Phone 7 Series can automatically detect phone numbers and email addresses - highlighting them for interaction - then there's no reason to be able to cut and paste between applications.
For a device that will include Word and other mobile Office applications, the concept of intelligent links does not seem sufficient.
