Close to 50% of Poles used Internet in 2009

WARSAW, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- 49.5 percent of Poles used the Internet in 2009, versus 45.1 percent in 2008, according to a recent survey carried out by MillwardBrown SMG/KRC.

Since 2001 when 12 percent of Poles used the Internet, the number grows by an average of 3-4 percent annually, the Polish news agency PAP reported on Monday, quoting the survey.

In 2009, over 73 percent of Polish internet users used the web every day, close to 17 percent several times a week, over 5 percent once a week, and 3 percent several times a month.

According to the poll, 91.7 percent use the internet at home, 22.3 percent at work, 7 percent at school or university.

Meanwhile, another survey conducted in October-November 2009 found that the Internet is used equally frequently by Polish men (50 percent) and women (50 percent).

The most popular internet page in Poland is Google.pl, which was visited by 89.6 percent of those surveyed.
