"Polio is a disease that attacks children and once a child is infected with polio virus, he could not be prevented from becoming disable," Dr. Mohsin Shah said.
Polio also said poliomyelitis is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by one of three related viruses, he said.
Shah said that polio is a very serious disease, which can lead to paralysis or even death. Once a person is exposed to polio, it usually takes about three to five days for symptoms to appear.
But, the Pakistani government on Monday delayed the current anti-polio campaign in the restive North Waziristan tribal region due to nonstop curfew and insecurity in the region.
About 150,000 children would not get anti-polio vaccines in North Waziristan, said the health department of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas Secretariat.
